Side Post: Project Inspiration

Hello all, today I would also like to highlight some inspirational material that were deciding factors in my decision to model the 2005 987 (2nd generation) Porsche Boxster. Of course, I was inspired by that of my own car of the same make, model, and year - as well as the wonderfully detailed work of Yogesh Purohit on ArtStation, as they recreated a 3D-model of a 718 (4th generation) Porsche Boxster

Below is a picture of my own Boxster in Midnight Blue, a bit of an uncommon color for this generation. It is a 2.7-liter flat-6 "boxer" style engine (Six pistons fire horizontally away from each other in rows of three), in the center of the vehicle, as it is a "midship," or mid-engine, car. My particular model features a six-speed manual transmission, so I will be sure to model this appropriately when I replicate the interior pieces.

I was also intrigued by the 987 Porsche Boxster being featured in the video game Forza Motorsport 4, as shown below.

Interestingly enough, the variant of the 987 Boxster featured in Forza Motorsport 4 is the 987.2 facelift model of the 2nd-generation Boxster from the late 2000's. However, this facelift had very limited exterior changes aside from wheel rims (Which are interchangeable), and some headlight trim options. Interior-wise, the 987.2 featured newer climate control buttons and panels, as well as enhanced radio options. This facelift was mostly mechanical as a new engine and two new transmissions were developed for the vehicle.

The model that I will be creating will be based off of the 987.1's interior, in a manual transmission trim, as I have yet to see any other 3D-model replica that features this car with a manual gearbox. Forza Motorsport 4's (FM4) model featured an automatic transmission trim level, and from the information I can gather, other video games simply did not have the level of detail for a full interior (As they released well before FM4), nor have I see a individually-created 987 model replica in manual, to my knowledge, so it is definitely something to take note of. I would also like to ensure that my model will have dynamic and moveable parts, such as the steering wheel and wheels themselves.

I have also found a side diagram of the vehicle from findblueprints.com, shown below.

Thank you for your support in this project, I look forward to writing and publishing the next blog post soon.
