Post #4: Beginning Renders, Materials, Demo Reel

Hello again, this fourth main blog post I will update the progress on this project from the past few weeks. After creating the brake caliper in zbrush and importing it into Maya, I went on to create various other portions of the vehicle that I presented to my peers recently.

I began by sculpting basic portions of the hood and rear of the car and refined them in zbrush, then later decimated them, and exported them as .FBX files and put them into Maya for some rendering shots.

I also found a workflow in which Blender 4.0 works best for converting .SVG files into actual polygonal geometry that I can morph and alternate to give a sense of realism, and I aligned these with the decimated models of the trunk and hood within Maya.

As you can see here, I can change the placement of the vertices for the logo to align well with the body panels. I then created a basic car test paint in Arnold/HyperShade.

This made for some rather nice renders of which I will probably use for the final compositing portions of the project, as seen below.

Of course, the lighting is not perfect, and I wish to have some more actual materials for the Boxster project. My new project proposal became more in-line with my current workflow:

- How can I utilize my knowledge in digital design to create high-quality 3D-models and composites of my 2005 Porsche Boxster automobile portions?

Therefore as detailed in my presentation I gave to my peers, I compiled a new basic structure of my final steps for the project.

The Final Steps Part 1:

 - Materials and Demo Reel:

        - Utilize Adobe Substance 3D Painter to produce a tire material based off the Sumitomo reference photo (In-progress).

        - Create a coldplate/HDRi scene for enhanced renders (In-progress).

        - Finish the rough demo reel for Week 15 (Complete).

The Final Steps Part 2:

 - Composites:

        - Utilize Adobe Photoshop/After Effects to create a diverse set of 3-5 posters/illustrations.

        - The final renders will be utilized to mimic various Porsche advertisements, and all will be part of the demo reel.

        - Final products, Blog, WIP will be presented through my current portfolio website which I currently maintain regularly.

The rough demo reel can be shown below:

Overall, I am confident I will be able to get my final touches and last stages on this project complete in-time, and present quality material. While I want to work on them sooner, I am working on multiple finals and work shifts this week, however, I have been able to allot time very soon for the Porsche project, which pleases me. I am excited to reveal what is to come in more side blog posts as well. Please, stay tuned, and thank you.

- Stefan
